League of Letters is a knockout hand-lettering tournament for lettering lovers, type nerds, and any creative that believes they can draw the better letter under pressure.

League of Letters is a knockout lettering tournament where designers, letterers, calligraphers, and type aficionados of all kinds compete to win. We start with 16 players competing in head to head lettering challenges. One by one, players are eliminated until we have our champion!

LofL is a celebration of the skill of hand-lettering in all styles. As modern designers and artists we have every digital resource and tool we could want at our fingertips. But for hundreds of years designers, illustrators, and artists developed typefaces and lettering styles by hand to incorporate meaning and emotion into text that was printed, drawn, and carved.

This tournament was created to bring us back to our foundations, work with analog tools again, and remind each other what we're capable of without computers. And give out cool prizes!

A letter is chosen

A random letter is drawn from a bag at the start of each game. Our players have to design their best version within a short time frame.

The clock starts

Players have a limited time to design their best letter: Round 1 is only four minutes long, and each round gets shorter until the final round — only 60 seconds!

A winner is declared

Our judges review the work and declare the winner! The winning player moves on to the next round, one step closer to glory.

Reena Mistry

Designer & Illustrator, Humble Raja

Reena Mistry is a Toronto-based artist and designer with a particular affinity for modifying Latin typefaces into Indic scripts. She has worked with custom type in environmental design, illustration, commercial branding and packaging design. She has received an Applied Arts Design Award and DesignTO’s Juror’s Choice and People’s Choice Award for Best Exhibition.

Jamie Chang

Type Designer & Founder, Manic Type

Jamie Chang is a type designer, letterer, and educator based in Toronto, Canada. He currently operates Manic Type, an independent foundry that produces retail and custom typefaces. Jamie is a graduate of Type@Cooper and the Type and Media program at the KABK in The Hague. His work is featured on Adobe Type, Future Fonts and Type Network and has garnered awards from ADCC, TDC, and ComArts.

Doris WAI

Calligraphy, Lettering, & Live Event Artist, Love Lettering

Doris Wai is an illustration graduate of OCADU but want she loves to draw most is letters! Her super power is to be able to draw any letter on any surface leading her to work on some very interesting calligraphy & lettering projects for clients like Hermes, BMW & Hallmark.

ChrisTopher Rouleau

Graphic Designer & Lettering Artist, Co-Founder, Ligatures

Christopher Rouleau is an artist and designer based in Toronto. He incorporates custom hand-lettering and sign painting into commercial art and his own personal practice. He was artist-in-residence at Gladstone House in 2025, recently exhibited his solo show at The Red Head Gallery in Toronto, and has received a Communication Arts Award of Excellence in Typography, and a DesignTO Juror's Choice Award.

Jenna Lynn Anderson

Chief Creative Officer, Fish

Jenna is a people-first creative leader who believes strengthening the brand is the foundation of every project and typography is the voice of the message. With almost 20 years in the industry, including 8 at Cossette, 11 at Pigeon, and 5 running Toronto Chalk Art, Jenna has a track record of building best-in-class design systems that thrive in retail, packaging and the shopper experience.

2026 Contenders

Fifty designers, letterers, and illustrators signed up to participate in the League of Letters Qualifying Round this year. They had 24 hours to draw their best uppercase K. Only 16 people could be selected to move on to the live tournament on October 15. Say congrats to our new contenders! They’re one step closer to lettering glory.
